Abbreviation: Coordinated Universal Time. One of several successors to Greenwich Mean Time, UTC is the international standard on which civil time is based. It is kept within 1 second of mean solar time at 0° longitude. Leap seconds are added when needed to compensate for the slowing of Earth’s rotation. PTO time during CST is UTC-6 hours and during CDT is UTC-5 hours.
