Abbreviation: Declination. Declination is one of the two coordinates commonly used to define the position of astronomical objects. It is analogous to terrestrial latitude but projected onto the celestial sphere. It is commonly measured in Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds. The reference starting point is the celestial equator with positive declinations north of the equator and negative declinations south of the equator.
